In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at boosting youth engagement with the news, SVT Gävleborg has partnered with media students from Bessemerskolan in Sandviken. This project addresses the significant challenge of youth apathy towards news, as over 30% of Swedes, particularly younger demographics, cite negativity as a reason for avoiding media content.

Under the guidance of SVT reporters Lina Abusagr and Alva Åsberg, 14 students participated in a two-day workshop focusing on news reporting. The students produced two segments covering relevant topics: one on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, and the other introducing a new disc golf course in Sandviken.

The aim of this initiative is not only to engage students in the news creation process but also to foster a better understanding of what issues resonate with young audiences. As society increasingly grapples with the spread of negative media perceptions, projects like this offer a refreshing perspective, allowing youth to share their narratives directly with their communities.
