Tram Derailment in Gothenburg Causes Significant Damage and Injuries

A tram derailment in Gothenburg late on the night before Midsummer resulted in extensive damage to a local kebab shop and injuries to several individuals. The incident occurred when a tram crashed into the Sannegården Kebab restaurant, striking deeply into the building's structure. Gökhan Özkan, the restaurant's owner, was alerted by an employee who initially sent him into disbelief. Following the collision, a total of eight individuals, including one staff member from the shop, were hospitalized, although all injuries have been assessed as non-life-threatening.

Özcan expressed his distress about the devastation, having spent four years establishing his restaurant. He stated, "It feels tough to see what we have built in four years," adding that he considers it fortunate that none of the patrons present during the incident were harmed, attributing the safety of those inside to what he referred to as "angelic guardians."

The crash has led to plans for the complete demolition of the kebab shop, with a projected timeline of about six months for reconstruction. Local union representatives have called for a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the derailment, urging the public and media against premature speculation on the matter. The tram's failure and its impacts on local businesses underscore the need for thorough inquiry to prevent future incidents.
