In April 2025, Sweden's raw steel production experienced a dramatic decline of 9.9% compared to the same month the previous year, according to data from Jernkontoret. The total production reached 367,000 tons, marking a significant drop from April 2024. Over the first four months of 2025, Sweden has produced 1,463,000 tons of raw steel—a 3.4% decrease from the same period in 2024.

Mathias Ternell, the trade policy director at Jernkontoret, expressed concerns over this unexpected downturn in production, especially following a relatively stable first quarter. Ternell highlighted that such a sharp decline raises alarms for the industry, which relies heavily on consistent output.

The production figures are compiled from eleven steel-producing facilities across Sweden, providing a comprehensive overview of the situation in the country’s steel sector. This latest trend may reflect broader challenges facing the industry amid fluctuating market conditions and economic pressures.
