In Luleå Municipality, seven employees have been dismissed following an investigation into the misuse of service vehicles and work hours. The inquiry was prompted by initial suspicions regarding the use of municipal cars outside of regular working hours. However, as the investigation progressed, it revealed a more extensive abuse of work hours than originally anticipated.

The investigation commenced at the end of April 2025, with the employees receiving termination notices in early May. Helén Wiklund Wårell, the director of infrastructure and service for the municipality, confirmed that the misconduct was greater than initially suspected. "It is a serious situation that goes beyond merely misusing vehicles. The misuse of work time also played a significant role in the decisions made," she noted.

Despite the dismissals, it was stated that affected tenants, particularly in schools and preschools, would not face negative impacts, as these facilities are set to close for the summer, allowing the municipality to manage its priorities effectively.
