  • • Project completion depends on obtaining building permits and lease agreements, expected in fall 2025.

In a significant development, the historic Liljeholmsbadet bathhouse in Stockholm has been saved from demolition, following its acquisition by AMF Real Estate. The company won the bidding process, which concluded on April 15, 2023, although the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed. AMF's plans focus on restoring the bathhouse's original architecture from the 1920s while transforming it into a modern recreation and spa facility.

The new facility is set to feature year-round bathing options, including a sauna and various recreational activities. Anders Kindberg, property director for Stockholm city, highlighted the importance of selecting a financially stable operator with a comprehensive plan for public service within the community. AMF aims to not only preserve the historical value of Liljeholmsbadet but also enhance the surrounding waterfront area, which has seen recent developments, including the opening of Marieviksbadet.

The project is currently contingent on obtaining necessary building permits and finalizing lease costs, with expectations set for resolution in the upcoming fall. Chief architect Andreas Martin-Löf emphasized the aim to blend the charm of 1920s classicism with contemporary design elements in the renovations. Johan Lindskog from AMF indicated that the vision for Liljeholmsbadet is rooted in long-term sustainability and community access, signaling a new chapter for this iconic site.
