A new report proposes measures to reduce transport costs to Arlanda Airport in response to increasing travel demand.
Key Points
- • Proposal to eliminate train station fee to lower fares.
- • Projected 75% increase in passengers by 2050.
- • Introduction of a breathalyzer safety measure at airport parking.
- • Bipartisan support for improving airport accessibility.
Peter Norman, the coordinator for Arlanda, has released a comprehensive report proposing 80 initiatives aimed at reducing transport costs to Arlanda Airport. This comes as travel demand is projected to surge, with passenger numbers expected to rise by 75% by 2050. A key recommendation is the removal of the current 147 kronor station fee, which would significantly reduce train fares from 190 kronor to just 43 kronor. In addition to cost reductions, the proposal includes innovative safety measures such as the 'Alkobom,' a breathalyzer system to mitigate drunk driving from airport parking. Support for these initiatives has been voiced by both the ruling red-green coalition and the opposition Moderates in Region Stockholm, highlighting a united front on improving accessibility to the airport. Aida Hadžialić, the finance regional councilor for Stockholm, emphasized the need for government guarantees in funding these essential measures. Similarly, Kristoffer Tamsons, the opposition regional councilor, underscored the urgency of enhancing travel infrastructure to maintain Sweden's competitive edge in air travel.
