Recent findings from the 2024 pregnancy survey conducted by Sweden's Municipalities and Regions (SKR) indicate notable improvements in women's experiences during childbirth and postnatal care in Stockholm. The survey revealed that 82% of women reported a positive childbirth experience, an increase from 79% in 2023.
A significant aspect of the survey was that 90% of women felt safe during childbirth, which is consistent with the 91% reported in the previous year. Support for breastfeeding also saw improvement, with 61% of respondents stating they received desired assistance, compared to 59% in 2023. Furthermore, 87% of women felt adequately supported by medical staff during labor, although this figure did show a slight decrease from 88% in 2023.
Notably, 93% of women felt involved in decision-making regarding their pregnancy. The survey addressed areas that still require attention, such as the knowledge of where to seek help post-pregnancy, showing that only 66% were aware of where to find support for physical health issues. Similarly, knowledge of mental health support dropped slightly to 74%, down from 76% in the previous year. The results underscore the ongoing commitment to improving maternity care, highlighting both successes and areas needing enhancement.
