The fire quickly spread, intensified by strong winds, and reached a nearby tire company. This prompted reports of explosive-like sounds as burning tires ignited. "The smoke development is incredibly strong," stated Björn Johansson, the incident commander overseeing the operation. Ten fire stations, supported by two helicopters from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), have been mobilized to combat the blaze.
Authorities forecast that firefighting efforts will take several days due to the sheer volume of recyclable materials on-site that need to be safely removed. Johansson highlighted the ongoing risk of rekindling as long as debris remains and windy conditions persist. In addition, police have cordoned off the area, but reports of unauthorized individuals entering the perimeter have surfaced, raising safety concerns.
