A large-scale fire in a multi-family building in Säter prompts emergency response and hospital transport.

Key Points

  • • Significant fire eruption in Säter's multi-family building.
  • • Six firefighting units responded to control the blaze.
  • • One person was hospitalized but released without serious injuries.
  • • Fire spread was mitigated after the roof burned through.

A significant fire broke out on Friday evening in a multi-family building located in Säter, prompting a swift response from six firefighting units. The emergency services received the alarm around 16:30, and the situation was quickly deemed as "extensive" by the rescue personnel, with the potential for the fire to spread to adjacent apartments and buildings.

The fire originated in one apartment before extending through the roof to other areas of the building. According to Jonas Eriksson, a commander with the rescue service, the initial response focused on preventing further spread and preserving as much of the structure as possible. The situation was further complicated due to the construction of the older building, which allowed flames to travel rapidly.

Efforts continued throughout the evening, and by 19:00, the fire was still a significant threat, but by around 21:30, the risk had begun to decrease once the roof burned through. This allowed firefighters to gain better control of the situation. Three units remained at the site overnight to monitor for any resurgence of the fire.

Additionally, one person was hospitalized as a precaution but was later released the same evening without serious injuries, confirmed by Region Dalarna. The efforts of the emergency services have been commended, particularly in managing what could have been a far more devastating outcome.
