In June 2025, Sweden experienced the largest drop in food prices in two years, with an overall decrease of 0.2%. This trend highlights a remarkable decline in coffee prices, which fell by 7% due to reduced raw material costs and a strengthened Krona. Consequently, consumers can expect to pay between 3 to 15 kronor less per coffee package. Ulf Mazur, founder of Matpriskollen, noted that heightened consumer scrutiny and price comparisons across grocery stores have significantly contributed to stabilizing prices in the food market.
Seasonal items, such as melons and strawberries, also saw notable price reductions, with melons decreasing by as much as 16%. Despite these positive trends, Mazur cautioned that prices for some items, including surströmming and beef, have continued to rise, reflecting ongoing inflationary pressures affecting the food market overall, which has seen a 3.5% price increase over the past year.
The recent decline follows a period of escalating food costs that prompted significant public backlash, including a week-long boycott of major grocery chains in March. As shoppers remain vigilant in their purchasing habits, the future may still hold stability rather than further decreases in food prices, according to Mazur's projections.
