Energimarknadsinspektionen (Ei) has unveiled significant proposals on May 28, 2025, aimed at revising the revenue regulation framework for electricity and gas network companies. The new regulations seek to reconcile the need for critical investments with the imperative of keeping customer fees within reasonable limits. As part of the proposed changes, amendments to the Electricity Act will be essential for implementation. Ei’s proposals include five key adjustments designed to help network companies manage the growing demands of electrification while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
Tomas Malmström, who oversees electricity networks at Energiföretagen, has expressed support for Ei's transparency and the necessity of careful impact assessments, emphasizing the importance of stability during this transition. He indicated that the proposals could lead to varied impacts on revenue frameworks, underscoring the importance of detailed implementation plans.
The next review period for electricity networks is scheduled to begin in 2028, while gas networks will undergo their review in 2027. Ei is also inviting public feedback on the new proposals, with a deadline of September 15, 2025. To facilitate discussions, an informational meeting by Ei is set for June 10, and Energiföretagen will hold its own session on June 5.
