The recent Skräpplockardagarna campaign successfully mobilized 664,462 participants, predominantly children, to remove an impressive 374 tons of litter from Sweden's natural environments. This year's initiative, organized by Håll Sverige Rent, involved 572,464 children contributing between the ages of 1 and 16, marking a significant engagement from young participants within the campaign's 21-year history.

Johanna Ragnartz, CEO of Håll Sverige Rent, highlighted the dual achievements of the campaign, stating, "Not only do these efforts have immediate environmental benefits, but they also nurture a lasting understanding of environmental stewardship among children." The event is celebrated not just for its cleanup success but as a crucial educational platform linking theory with practical action on littering and its wider impacts.

Notable municipalities excelling in child participation include Arjeplog (93%), Vaxholm (83%), and Malå (76%), with Stockholm leading in sheer numbers with 66,093 children participating. In terms of regional engagement, Gävleborg reported the highest child participation rate at 43%. Over 6,900 schools and preschools, along with 450 organizations, businesses, and associations, engaged in this vast environmental effort.

Ragnartz noted the continuing importance of such initiatives in shaping a future generation aware of and motivated to tackle environmental issues, reinforcing the essential role children play in promoting sustainability in their communities.
