Brookfield Asset Management has unveiled plans for a staggering investment of 95 billion SEK in an artificial intelligence (AI) hub outside Strängnäs, Sweden, over the next 15 years. The project signifies a major advance in Sweden’s tech infrastructure and promises to generate 1,000 permanent jobs, alongside an additional 2,000 construction jobs.
The facility will not only operate as a data center but also serve as a dedicated AI center capable of significant independent computational capacity. Lars Rodert, a senior advisor at Brookfield, emphasized the center’s role in supporting the rising demands of Swedish businesses while fostering a robust AI ecosystem.
This ambitious initiative is set to demand approximately 750 megawatts of energy, categorizing it among the largest data centers by international standards. To support this venture, Brookfield will purchase 350,000 square meters of land at a cost of 525 million SEK.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has publicly endorsed the investment, calling it one of the most substantial infrastructure projects for AI in Sweden. He expressed his pride that such a monumental project is taking shape in his hometown, underscoring its strategic importance for the national economy and tech landscape. The agreement forged between Brookfield and the local municipality further grants the firm exclusive rights for the next two years to plan the construction of this advanced AI center, signaling a robust commitment to advancing Sweden's position in global technology development.
