Swedish NBA player Bobi Klintman will not compete in the upcoming EuroBasket championship to prioritize his recovery and preseason training with his NBA team, the Detroit Pistons. After a challenging season marked by injuries, Klintman made the decision to focus on his health rather than represent Sweden in the tournament, which is scheduled from August 27 to September 14, 2025.
"Playing for the national team is always a great honor, but after an injury-riddled season, it’s crucial for me to focus on a full recovery and a strong preseason with my club," Klintman stated. His withdrawal comes just weeks after being named in Sweden’s preliminary roster for the tournament.
Both Klintman and the Swedish Basketball Federation, along with national team coach Mikko Riipinen, have expressed mutual understanding regarding the decision. Riipinen emphasized that there had been open discussions about Klintman’s health priorities, asserting, "We understand completely that he chooses to invest the time in himself and his club team. We know he would have liked to play and look forward to having him in the national team in the future."
With Sweden now proceeding without Klintman, the team prepares for its upcoming matches against Germany, Finland, Great Britain, Lithuania, and Montenegro, while there is hope for Klintman's return in future international competitions.
